Dwayne Taylor grew up in West Texas. His father worked on a drilling rig, and the oilfield was part of the family long before Dwayne ever set foot on a location himself.
His father earned the nickname “Lucky” serving in the Korean War. He came home with it, and it stuck. He passed away too soon, before he could see what his son would build. So when Dwayne was choosing a name for his first company, his mother Stella had a simple suggestion: name it after your dad.
He did. And that name has been on every rig, every truck, and every tool in the Lucky Family ever since.
Dwayne didn’t inherit a company. He didn’t have a ready-made path.
Right out of high school, he went to work in a gas plant and later became a drilling consultant. Ambition led him to start his own well servicing company.
One rig. One crew.
Dwayne said, “If you roll up your sleeves, work hard, and say your prayers, good things are bound to happen.”
That was 1986. The company he built is still here. And still growing.
The Lucky Services’ fleet of pulling units runs jobs out of Hobbs, NM, and Midland, TX, providing well service coverage across the Permian Basin.
Keeping producing wells healthy. Some of our rigs have stayed with the same customer for years. That kind of continuity doesn’t happen by accident.
Intervention work that gets a well back online. These jobs demand experienced crews and equipment that won’t let you down in the middle of the operation.
Getting new wells ready to produce. High-stakes, often running 24 hours a day, with two crews working 12-hour shifts on one rig. The derrick height matters here. So does every other detail.

Dwayne Taylor invested decades advocating for this industry, not just operating in it. In the 1990s, he was part of the Coalition of Concerned Citizens for Energy Policy (CCEP), a group that took the case for oil and gas directly to New Mexico legislators, making clear what the industry means to the state: jobs, communities, quality of life. That work got noticed. Dwayne was later invited by Continental Resources founder Harold Hamm to bring that same message before Congress through the Domestic Energy Producers Alliance (DEPA).
That advocacy didn’t stop. Today, CEO Ed Lauer holds seats on the boards of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association, the Permian Basin Petroleum Association, and the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico.
We believe the work we do matters. Not just to the operators we serve, but to the people who live and work in this basin. That belief shapes how we run every job.
