The Pulling Unit Contractor the Permian Basin Calls

Proud Heritage. Pursuing Excellence.

A pulling unit that never arrives or isn’t the correct spec doesn’t just slow the job. It stacks every other vendor, burns the consultant’s day, and costs the operator money that nobody’s getting back.

Lucky Services has been running pulling units across the Permian Basin since 1986. Two locations. A 20-rig fleet staffed by crews who know what they’re doing. Backed by in-house mechanics deployed across the Basin every day.

Three Types of Pulling Unit Work

Lucky Services runs production maintenance, workover, and completion jobs across the Permian Basin. Each type has different requirements and different consequences when the wrong rig shows up.

Production Maintenance

A single crew using one rig. Routine work—rod pulls, tubing changes, pump repairs—on wells that need regular attention to keep producing. These jobs are steady and relationship-driven. Some Lucky crews work for the same customers for years.

That kind of consistency comes from keeping good people and maintaining high-performance equipment.

Workover

Workover jobs are higher stakes. When a well needs serious intervention, Lucky runs 24-hour operations with two 12-hour crews on one rig. Continuous progress without adding equipment to the field.

Clean crew handoffs and consistent communication are what make it work. If the plan changes, you’re the first call. Not an afterthought.

Completions

Completion work requires more. Stacked BOP and wellhead equipment can push working height to 15-30 feet, compared to 5-15 feet on a typical production job. That means taller derricks, hydraulic work floors, operator platforms, and precise rig selection. Lucky Services has the equipment and experience for 24-hour drillouts.

The full Lucky Family can support a turnkey drillout package when the job calls for it.

What Separates a Reliable Workover Rig from One That Costs You a Day

Not all workover rigs are equal. Equipment condition, crew quality, and how fast problems get fixed on location all come back to how seriously a contractor takes maintenance. At Lucky Services, we maintain the highest standards.

Every rig in the Lucky fleet is a Watson Hopper / Crane Carrier. Same make, same chassis, uniform components across all our units. A 90-95% repeat customer rate doesn’t happen with inconsistent equipment.

When something needs to be fixed, the parts are on hand, and the mechanics know the equipment. No mismatched rigs. No delays waiting on a shop that’s never seen the unit before.

Our mechanics are deployed across the Permian Basin daily from both Midland and Hobbs. So when a rig needs attention, it gets it fast. That’s a real operational advantage when you’re 90 minutes from the nearest town and a job is on the clock.

Pulling Units from Midland, TX & Hobbs, NM, Serving the Permian Basin

Lucky Services runs pulling units out of two locations: Midland, TX, and Hobbs, NM, covering West Texas and Southeast New Mexico.

We know this Basin: the operators, the leases, the consultants, and the particular demands of working out here.

That local knowledge matters when you’re mobilizing equipment, scoping a job, or handling something unexpected on location.

What Happens When You Call Lucky Services

Before a rig is mobilized, we ask the right questions upfront:

  • What type of job is it—production, workover, or completion?
  • Is it a single-shift or 24-hour operation?
  • What’s the wellhead configuration and working height?
  • Base beam requirements and certification needed?
  • Any fishing or drillout work involved?
  • Is there a need for additional Lucky Family services on location?

Getting the scope right before mobilizing is how jobs run clean. If something changes once we’re on location, you’ll know about it before anything moves. That’s how Lucky has kept a 90-95% repeat-customer rate across our four decades in the Permian Basin.
